Tinubu redeploys Musa Adar as NEITI executive secretary, appoints Shagari as NIWA chairman

President Bola Tinubu has approved the redeployment of Musa Adar as the new Executive Secretary of the Nigeria Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (NEITI), marking a key reshuffle within federal agencies aimed at strengthening governance and accountability.

Adar, who previously served as Chairman of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), replaces Ogbonnaya Orji, who has held the NEITI position since 2021.

The announcement was contained in a statement released on Tuesday by Director of Information and Public Relations in the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF), Segun Imohiosen.

Shagari Takes Over at NIWA

Following Adar’s movement to NEITI, President Tinubu appointed Mukhtar Shagari, a former Minister of Water Resources, as the new Chairman of NIWA.

The Presidency noted that both the redeployment and new appointment take immediate effect.

President Calls for Patriotism and Accountability

In approving the changes, President Tinubu urged the newly appointed officials to demonstrate patriotism and deploy their experience toward improving transparency, accountability, and effective service delivery within their respective institutions.

The redeployment aligns with the administration’s broader governance reforms, particularly within institutions critical to transparency in Nigeria’s extractive and natural resources sectors.

Federal Character Balance Under Review

The development comes weeks after the Acting Chairman of the Federal Character Commission (FCC), Kayode Oladele, stated that the current administration adheres to constitutional provisions on equity and national balance in federal appointments.

Oladele disclosed that northern Nigeria presently holds 56.3 percent of federal leadership positions, while the south accounts for 43.7 percent, reflecting ongoing debates about equitable representation in public service.
