Hilda Baci receives second Guinness World Record plaque for largest jollof rice pot

Nigerian celebrity chef, Hilda Baci, has received her second Guinness World Record plaque after being officially recognised for cooking the world’s largest pot of jollof rice.

According to Guinness World Records, Baci prepared 8,780 kilograms (19,356 pounds) of jollof rice during a cookout in Lagos in September, setting a new global record for the dish.

This latest achievement comes just over a year after her first Guinness title for completing a 93-hour, 11-minute cooking marathon in May 2023, a feat that earned her international acclaim.

With the two recognitions, Baci becomes Nigeria’s first chef to hold multiple Guinness World Records, solidifying her place as one of Africa’s most celebrated culinary figures.

Sharing the news on Instagram, Baci posted photos of her plaques and described her success as a story of “faith, fire, and history.”

“Our plaques are finally here! Two records. Two plaques. One story of faith, fire, and history. Twice, God showed up for me. Twice, we made history for Nigeria,” she wrote.

She added that both records reflected Nigeria’s creativity and the power of passion and purpose, noting that her jollof rice event — done in partnership with Gino — reached over five billion people globally.

“I’m a two-time world record holder — someone pinch me,” she added, quoting Isaiah 61:7 as a reflection of her journey: “Instead of shame, you will receive a double portion.”

Baci’s jollof rice cookout drew a crowd of more than 20,000 food lovers, celebrities, and influencers, with all portions of the massive dish distributed to guests and charity groups in line with Guinness verification standards.
