The Nigeria Immigration Service has warned Nigerians against travelling out of the country without valid documents, stressing that such actions are illegal and expose individuals to exploitation and other dangers.

The warning was contained in a public alert shared on Monday by the Service Public Relations Officer, DCI AS Akinlabi, via the agency’s official X handle.

According to the NIS, all international travel must be undertaken with valid passports, visas where necessary, and other approved immigration documents.

The agency cautioned that attempts to bypass official immigration procedures or use unauthorised border routes amount to violations of Nigerian law.

The service also raised concerns over the increasing activities of fraudulent migration syndicates allegedly targeting Nigerians, especially young people, with fake promises of jobs, education, and better living opportunities abroad.

“These schemes often result in forced labour, human trafficking, and other forms of exploitation,” the statement read.

The NIS stressed that no legitimate travel process bypasses official immigration procedures or recognised border posts.

It urged Nigerians to verify travel and recruitment offers through official channels and avoid dealing with unregistered travel agents or individuals promoting irregular migration.

The agency also advised members of the public to report suspicious migration-related activities to the nearest Immigration Service office or relevant security agencies.

Reaffirming its commitment to border security, the NIS said it remains determined to protect Nigerians from illegal migration networks and exploitation.
