Ogun school wins 33 medals, others at STEM Olympiad
Sixteen students from The Ambassadors Schools, Ota, Ogun State, represented Nigeria at the 2026 International STEM Olympiad held in Rome, Italy, with the school’s contingent winning 15 gold medals, nine silver medals, nine bronze medals and one honourable mention, according to the school.
The school disclosed the achievement in a statement shared on its official Instagram page on Wednesday, revealing that its students also secured nine silver medals, nine bronze medals and one honourable mention across the junior and senior categories of Coding, Mathematics, Science and the Bridge Challenge.
It added that three of its students, Amaechi Udochukwu, Oluwaseyi Odewoye and Obosi-Iyor Inino, emerged as Best in the World in the Bridge Challenge category.
“Another success at the 2026 International STEM Olympiad.
“Sixteen Ambassadors, 16 Champions: 15 Gold Medals, 9 Silver Medals, 9 Bronze Medals, 1 honourable mention.
“Our 16 ambassadors from The Ambassadors College emerged as champions, excelling in the Junior and Senior Categories of Coding, Mathematics, Science, and the Bridge Challenge.
“Ambassadors Amaechi Udochukwu, Oluwaseyi Odewoye, and Obosi-Iyor Inino also emerged as Best in the World for the Bridge Challenge.
“Congratulations to our Ambassadors on making themselves, the school, and the nation proud. We remain the Home of Champions and where God helps us to build a Total Child,” the school stated.
According to the school, the students were sponsored by its management to represent Nigeria at the international competition after qualifying for the global stage.
Among the gold medallists in Mathematics were Daniel Abara, Taiwo Demilade, David Ufondu, Chidalu Emeka-Okoye and Idu Seth.
In Science, gold medals were won by Teniayo Alade, Daniel Abara, Treasures Olawunmi Jephtah, Chidalu Emeka-Okoye and Daniel Afolabi.
The latest feat comes barely a day after three other Nigerian students sponsored by Educare CEO, Alex Onyia, also delivered an outstanding performance at the same competition.
As earlier earlier, 13-year-old Onwubiko Chimdiebube, 17-year-old Don Anele Munachimso and 11-year-old Egejurum Onyedikachi all won gold medals for Nigeria.
Don Anele emerged as the world’s best in Science after winning two gold medals, while Egejurum was crowned the world’s best in the Primary Mathematics category. Chimdiebube also secured a gold medal in Mathematics.
The three students qualified through the Southeast Mathematics Olympiad organised by Onyia, who sponsored their participation by covering their registration, visas, flights, accommodation and other travel expenses.
The International STEM Olympiad, held at the Università Campus Bio-Medico di Roma, attracted participants from more than 150 countries competing in Mathematics, Science, Coding and other STEM-based events.
Nigeria’s strong showing at the competition comes despite recent concerns over the country’s declining participation in major global academic contests.
Only weeks ago, education stakeholders disclosed that Nigeria had been downgraded to observer status at the 2026 International Mathematical Olympiad in Shanghai, China, after years of non-participation due to funding constraints.
The latest victories by the students from The Ambassadors Schools and the Onyia-sponsored Team Nigeria have, however, reinforced calls for greater investment in gifted young Nigerians participating in international academic competitions.
