INEC Finalises Timetable, Schedule of Activities for 2027 General Elections
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has confirmed that it has finalised the timetable and schedule of activities for Nigeria’s 2027 general elections, signalling a major milestone in preparations for the next nationwide polls.
The disclosure was made on Wednesday in Abuja by the INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, during a meeting with Civil Society Organisations (CSOs). According to him, the Commission has concluded internal work on the election roadmap to ensure early, structured, and lawful preparation for the 2027 electoral cycle.
Prof. Amupitan explained that the timetable and schedule of activities cover all critical stages of the electoral process, including preparations for the presidential, National Assembly, governorship, and State House of Assembly elections. He noted that the document is designed to guide political parties, aspirants, election observers, civil society groups, security agencies, and voters.

He said the schedule outlines key activities such as the issuance of notice of election, resumption of Continuous Voter Registration (CVR), conduct of party primaries, submission and verification of candidates’ particulars, publication of final candidates’ lists, campaign timelines, and election days for the various polls.
The INEC chairman, however, clarified that while the timetable has been finalised, some dates may be adjusted depending on the outcome of ongoing legislative processes, particularly the amendment of the Electoral Act currently before the National Assembly. He stressed that INEC remains bound by the law and will ensure full compliance with all legal provisions governing elections.
Prof. Amupitan also cautioned political stakeholders and the general public against relying on unverified documents circulating online, emphasising that the official timetable will be formally released through INEC’s recognised communication channels at the appropriate time.
He reaffirmed INEC’s commitment to working closely with civil society organisations, describing them as key partners in promoting credible elections, voter education, transparency, and public trust in the electoral process.
With the timetable now concluded, INEC assured Nigerians that preparations are progressing steadily toward delivering a free, fair, and transparent 2027 general election, while urging all stakeholders to begin early engagement and planning ahead of the polls.
