Independence anniversary: FG to honour 250 outstanding Nigerians
As part of activities marking Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary, the Federal Government is set to honour 250 outstanding Nigerians for their exceptional dedication, innovation, and patriotism in driving national development across various sectors.
Speaking at the flag-off ceremony for the groundbreaking Compendium of 250 Top Performers in Nigeria, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, described the initiative as a historic and remarkable effort to celebrate the resilience and brilliance of Nigerians both at home and abroad.
Represented by the Permanent Secretary overseeing the General Services Office, Mallam Mohammed Danjuma, a statement by Director, Information & Public Relations, Segun Imohiosen said the SGF noted that the initiative presents a timely opportunity to reflect, project, and celebrate the values of resilience, innovation, and patriotism that define the Nigerian spirit.
“The production of the compendium will serve as the face of Nigeria’s immense human endowments and will also provide vista of opportunities for the youth to aspire for greatness as well as renew our commitment to national unity and nation building.
“The project will feature government’s key achievements and 11 top performing State Governors. He added that it will also feature quiz competition, patriotic songs of hope, innovative/creativity exhibitions and music concert, ” Akume was quoted as saying.
Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary, Political and Economic Affairs Office, Engr. Nadungu Gagare, said the publication would serve as both a historic record and a strategic platform for promoting credible narratives about Nigeria. He added that it would document excellence in governance and inspire emerging talents across all sectors.
Earlier, the convener of the compendium, Jennifer Chinyelu Obiasor, stated that the project—aptly themed “Nigeria Celebrates” will highlight 250 exceptional Nigerians making waves globally in fields such as medicine, business, sports, entertainment, technology, and diplomacy.
She said the initiative is designed to promote a renewed sense of national pride and unity by showcasing the positive contributions of Nigerians to global advancement.
