Kogi State Governor, His Excellency Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, has flagged off the distribution of food baskets and Kings Soya Oil donated by Qatar Charity in Nigeria to support less privileged persons and Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the state.

The initiative is aimed at providing relief to vulnerable families and helping them meet some of their basic food needs.

Speaking at the flag-off ceremony in Lokoja on Wednesday, Governor Ododo represented by his Deputy, Comrade Joel Salifu, appreciated Qatar Charity for the donation, describing it as a demonstration of the organisation’s commitment to humanitarian service and the welfare of vulnerable people.

The Governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to reducing hardship, improving the living conditions of residents and ensuring that no one was left behind.
He noted that partnerships with humanitarian organisations and development partners remained essential to complementing government efforts to support disadvantaged members of society.

Governor Ododo directed the Commissioner for Poverty Alleviation and Humanitarian Affairs and other officials overseeing the distribution to ensure that the items reached the intended beneficiaries transparently, fairly and without discrimination.
He also called on other organisations, well-meaning Kogites and development partners to support the state’s humanitarian efforts and contribute to improving the lives of vulnerable residents.

The Governor expressed hope that the donation would bring meaningful relief to beneficiary families and strengthen the partnership between the Kogi State Government and Qatar Charity in Nigeria.

Earlier, the Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Hajia Rabietu Okute, thanked Qatar Charity for its support for the less privileged in the state.

She assured that her ministry would continue to work with donors and humanitarian organisations to provide assistance to vulnerable people. She also pledged that the donated items would reach the intended beneficiaries.

Similarly, the Welfare Officer I of Qatar Charity Nigeria, Mr. Nuhu Albee Musa, who represented the Country Director, thanked the Kogi State Government for accepting the organisation’s request to partner with the state.
He explained that Qatar Charity had been operating in Nigeria for about six years, providing support to vulnerable people, sponsoring students, assisting Internally Displaced Persons and building houses for the less privileged.

Mr. Musa disclosed that the current intervention would initially benefit 500 persons, expressing optimism that the relationship established with the state government would lead to more humanitarian interventions in the future.

Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mrs. Fatima Yakubu thanked the State Government and Qatar Charity for remembering the less privileged at a time when many families needed support. She particularly thanked Governor Ododo for partnering with organisations that provide assistance to poor and vulnerable people.
