Celestial Church Pastor Killed Wife, Died By Suicide In Ogun Over Alleged Infidelity
A violent domestic clash in Akiode Ibogun, Ifo LGA, Ogun State, left a husband and wife dead on Monday, August 31, 2026. Bidemi Odukoya, Shepherd of Celestial Church of Christ, Iri Orun Parish, allegedly killed his wife Adenike, popularly called “Mummy Daniel,” during a late-night fight at their home beside the church. Reports say he used a machete and a wooden stool, inflicting fatal head injuries around 2 am. He then fled the scene.
The couple’s 14-year-old son, Daniel, raised the alarm by waking neighbors around 2 am. Neighbor Mrs. Oluwatoyin Oseni and others found Adenike’s body on the floor, badly injured and covered in blood. Odukoya was still at the house briefly with a cutlass and told them he was “as good as gone” before disappearing. The Baale, Chief Taiwo Akiode, said police were notified and came to document the scene. The couple’s three children, including a 7-year-old, have now been left orphaned .
Hours later, Odukoya was found dead at Coker Junction on the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway. Witnesses said he walked erratically across the road, sat on the median, and then jumped in front of a truck around 7 am. Traffic was held up as people gathered. The driver was questioned and released. In a tragic twist, both husband and wife were buried side-by-side behind their home that same Monday evening, with community members digging the graves.
Community leaders say infidelity was at the root of the crisis. Youth leader Seun Adelana alleged both partners were accused of affairs. Asiwaju Chief Oluwasegun Adeboye revealed the couple had taken their marital dispute to court and were due back two days later. Accounts of their relationship differ: some neighbors described them as peaceful and respectful, while others, like Mrs. Oseni, said fights were frequent, police had intervened before, and the couple hadn’t spoken since June.
The Ogun State Police Command confirmed the case has been moved to the SCID in Abeokuta for investigation. Leaders described the event as unprecedented and shocking. Chief Akiode urged couples to seek counseling rather than let conflicts escalate, while others called for more mental health support after the pastor’s erratic behavior before his death. The tragedy has sparked calls for early intervention in domestic disputes, noting that children bear the greatest cost.
