EFCC officer dies after collapsing in Lagos

An officer of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission in Lagos tragically slumped and died in an undisclosed location in the state on Sunday.

According to a video circulating online, the officer, who was not wearing a uniform, was found lifeless by bystanders, including some police officers. The police conducted a search of his bag and identified him as an EFCC officer through his ID card.

A voice in the video could be heard saying, “He works with EFCC. His ID card is with him.”

Speaking to reporters on Monday, EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale confirmed the incident and said the matter is under investigation.

“Yes, the man is our officer. His death is being investigated. The incident happened on Sunday,” Oyewale said.

The video has sparked reactions on social media, with many expressing shock and sympathy for the officer’s sudden death.

This incident comes weeks after an EFCC officer, Aminu Salisu, was shot by a suspected Yahoo boy during a raid in Onitsha, Anambra State.

The EFCC team, who had traveled from their zonal headquarters in Enugu, was ambushed while pursuing cybercrime suspects.

Oyewale condemned such violent incidents and assured the public that the EFCC remains committed to seeking justice and protecting its officers.

As the investigation into the officer’s death continues, further details are expected to be disclosed.
