The Lagos State Task Force has dismissed two personnel, Fatai Yusuf, 42, and Hammed Garuba, 38, for stealing mobile phones during a raid at a hotel in Gowon Estate, Lagos.
The hotel is known for harboring drug users and traffickers.
The raid, which resulted in several arrests, was tainted when CCTV footage revealed the misconduct of the two officers, who worked as paramilitary personnel.
Chairman of the Lagos State Task Force, Adetayo Akerele, condemned their actions and emphasized the agency’s commitment to discipline and integrity.
Akerele stated, “The Lagos State Task Force is guided by principles of discipline, equity, and justice. Any act that compromises the agency’s credibility or erodes public trust will be addressed decisively and without hesitation.”
The agency also reported that 53 suspects arrested in earlier operations had been remanded at the Badagry Correctional Centre after court appearances.
A subsequent operation targeting drug hotspots and illegal structures in Gowon Estate, Ipaja, last week led to the arrest of 43 more suspects. During the raid, identified drug hideouts and shanties were demolished to discourage criminal activities in the area.
The suspects from the recent operations were swiftly arraigned, highlighting the Task Force’s continued efforts to combat drug-related crimes and ensure public safety.
