Police arrest four armed robbery suspects in Abuja

At least four suspected armed robbers were arrested recently by police operatives during a raid at the Dei-Dei timber shed in Abuja.

The Federal Capital Territory Police Commissioner, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, disclosed in a statement that the arrests were made by detectives from the Dei-Dei ‘B’ Division as part of an operation targeting various criminal hideouts, executed under the command’s directives.

According to him, the operation was initiated based on reliable intelligence, which ultimately led to the capture of the four suspects.

The individuals arrested are Nura Halilu, Salim Mohammed, Saifullahi Usman, and Usman Mohammed.

Reports stated that firearms and counterfeit currency were seized from the suspects during the raid.

Commissioner Disu indicated that investigations have shown that the hideout was associated with their gang leader, who remains at large, and that it also functioned as a centre for drug trafficking, stolen mobile phones, and other illicit activities.

During the raid, law enforcement recovered several items, including a locally manufactured firearm, cartridges, four knives, and a substantial quantity of dried leaves believed to be Indian hemp.

He said, “One of the suspects, Ismail Tasiu, also known as Old School, has confessed to have been operating in the area for over 10 years. While another suspect, Nura Halilu, admitted to be part of an armed robbery and drug syndicate led by a fugitive named Murtala.’’

Disu said all the suspects were currently in custody and would face prosecution.
