A total of 154 casualties have been confirmed in the collapsed building of Saints Academy in Jos, Plateau State, which occurred on Friday, with 22 dead and 132 injured.
The State Government gave the update of the collapsed two-storey school building, located in the Busa Buji community of Jos North Local Government Area.
The students and teachers were in classes for the third term examination when the incident happened.
Speaking at the scene of the incident, Plateau State Commissioner for Information and Communication, Musa Ashoms, said the school had a population of about 400, adding that the section that collapsed accommodated 200 students.
The commissioner said the collapsed school building was built on a waterlogged area, which did not meet construction standards.
Ashoms, in a statement, said 132 victims were receiving medical treatment at various hospitals in the state.
” As of 6pm, 154 people have been rescued from the debris. Sadly, 22 individuals have been confirmed deceased. Injured students and staff are receiving medical treatment at various hospitals across Jos.
“The Plateau State Government set in motion emergency response protocols immediately upon notification of the incident.”
