The Lagos State House of Assembly member representing Surulere Constituency I, Desmond Elliot, on Friday publicly apologised to President Bola Tinubu’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila.

Mr Elliot made the apology during an interview on TVC’s Your View, noting that he grew into politics under the tutelage of Mr Gbajabiamila, a former House of Representatives speaker, who he said taught him all he knows as a politician.

He said, “I’m not saying, oh, yes, media will come out, oh yes, Desmond begs again. Yes, because he’s my egbon. And I grew up learning everything I knew in politics through him.

“To err is human, to forgive is divine. So I’m sorry, my daddy, if I’ve offended you in any way. To the matriarch of Surulere, mama, I’m sorry if I’ve offended you.”

Vowing to keep the party strong, he told Surulere residents, “My scorecard is there. You know the things I’ve done to make Surulere a better place.”

The apology followed Mr Gbajabiamila’s disclosure on Thursday that he nearly lost his job as President Bola Tinubu’s chief of staff over Mr Elliot’s role in the 2025 impeachment of Lagos State House of Assembly Speaker Mudashiru Obasa.
