The African Democratic Congress has submitted the names and particulars of its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, and his running mate, Rotimi Amaechi, to the Independent National Electoral Commission, marking a significant step in the party’s preparations for the 2027 presidential election.

The development was announced on Tuesday night by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, in a post on his verified X handle.

He wrote, “We are pleased to announce that we have successfully uploaded the names and particulars of the African Democratic Congress presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar (GCON), and our Vice Presidential Candidate, Rotimi Amaechi (CON), to the nomination portal of the @INECNigeria.

“This marks another important step in our preparations for the 2027 general election and our commitment to offer Nigerians a credible alternative built on competence, unity, and national renewal.”

The submission follows the ADC’s formal adoption of former Vice President Atiku as its presidential flag bearer and former Minister of Transportation and ex-Rivers State governor, Rotimi Amaechi, as his running mate after months of consultations among opposition leaders seeking to build a broad coalition ahead of the next general election.

Atiku, who was the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in the 2019 and 2023 elections, defected to the ADC as part of efforts to unite opposition forces under a single platform.

Amaechi, a former governor of Rivers State and one-time presidential aspirant of the All Progressives Congress, also joined the coalition after leaving the ruling party.

The opposition party is aiming at dislodging President Tinubu and the APC in the 2027 election, arguing that the country needs a new direction to address its economic and governance challenges.

The upload of the candidates’ particulars to INEC’s nomination portal represents one of the key administrative requirements in the electoral process ahead of the 2027 polls.
