Controversial Nigerian crossdresser, Idris Okuneye, widely known as Bobrisky, recently took to his social media platforms to explain his reasons for leaving Nigeria, firmly denying speculation that he fled to evade justice.
On Monday, Bobrisky, a high-profile and often flamboyant social media influencer, announced his departure from Nigeria after two previously failed attempts to leave the country.
This time, he successfully managed to exit, though he was deliberately discreet about his destination.
By Tuesday morning, he shared updates with his fans, stating that he was “lodged in the middle of the water” and shifting his focus to the scenic view from his hotel room.
“Good morning, guys; my view is so beautiful, oh my God,” he shared with his followers, providing a glimpse into his new surroundings.
Using his social media as his platform, the 33-year-old crossdresser shared his reasoning behind his departure, noting,“I’m here to confirm that I’m out of Nigeria temporarily… I need to attend to my sanity and health.”
Bobrisky further disclosed his frustrations with certain Nigerian agencies, accusing them of deliberate obstruction, stating, “A few Nigerian security agencies tried everything to frustrate me, but naah I gat God.”
He went on to reveal the financial cost of his journey, explaining that he had to purchase three business class tickets before he was finally able to leave.
“Imagine!!! I bought business class tickets three times, but only one was successful. Each business class cost me 9,800,000. I only successfully flew out yesterday,” he wrote.
Bobrisky then delivered a message to critics, saying, “Before you come to my page to type nønsénsé, check your account balance to see if you can afford three business class seats, not to talk about buying it three times. I’m not in Nigeria, so your comment means nothing to me. Cheers.”
Bobrisky’s departure comes amid a turbulent year, with a series of controversies and legal troubles adding to his challenges in 2024.
Back in April, he faced a six-month prison sentence for reportedly violating Nigerian law by spraying the Naira at an event, an act deemed an abuse of the national currency.
He was subsequently incarcerated at Kirikiri Prison, where he remained until his release on August 5. His release stirred public interest, with many noting his appearance seemed healthier and fresher than before his imprisonment.
Shortly after his release, popular activist and influencer Otse Martin, known online as VeryDarkMan, released an audio recording allegedly implicating Bobrisky in a series of bribes and backdoor deals.
According to the recording, which allegedly features Bobrisky’s voice, he bribed the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission with 15 million Naira to dismiss money laundering charges.
The recording also implied that he had arranged with Nigerian correctional services to serve most of his sentence at a private location, thanks to a 10 million Naira bribe facilitated by a supposed godfather.
