The National Assembly has dismissed rumors circulating on social media that President Bola Tinubu will present the 2025 budget to a joint session on Wednesday.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Secretary of Research and Information at the National Assembly, Dr. Ali Umoru, labeled the claims as baseless and urged the public to disregard them.
“The purported claim that the 2025 budget will be presented tomorrow is untrue,” the statement read.
“The necessary legislative process for budget presentation, including the approval of the Medium Term Expenditure Framework and Fiscal Strategy Paper, is still ongoing.”
Dr. Umoru emphasized that the legislative process requires the approval of the 2024-2026 MTEF and FSP before the national budget can be presented, clarifying that this crucial step has not yet been completed.
He further urged media outlets and individuals to avoid spreading unverified information, adding, “All official communications regarding the National Assembly should come through its authorized channels. Spreading misleading reports only causes unnecessary confusion.”
The National Assembly reassured Nigerians of its commitment to transparency in governance, noting that the legislative process for finalizing the fiscal framework is progressing.
This clarification comes as Nigerians anticipate the formal unveiling of the 2025 budget, which is expected to detail the government’s economic priorities and fiscal strategies for the year.
Meanwhile, the Senate Committee on Finance has been meeting with Ministries, Departments, and Agencies to conclude work on the MTEF/FSP.
