Tinubu appoints Atiku’s ex-media aide as special adviser

President Bola Tinubu has appointed Daniel Bwala as his Special Adviser on Media and Public Communications, as well as three new Director-Generals for key agencies.

This was announced in a statement from presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga on Thursday.

“Mr. Daniel Bwala is a lawyer and well-known public affairs analyst,” said Onanuga. Bwala, who previously served as the spokesperson for the opposition Peoples Democratic Party in the 2023 presidential election, was a vocal critic of the ruling All Progressives Congress before aligning with President Tinubu’s administration. Following the election, Bwala confirmed that he had left the PDP and was considering joining the APC.

In response to questions about his shift to supporting the government, Bwala said, “I am not a member of the PDP. Yes, I have left the PDP… I am very close” to joining the APC.

Besides Bwala, President Tinubu has also appointed three others as heads of federal agencies. Olawale Olopade was named Director-General of the National Sports Commission. Olopade, an experienced sports administrator, previously served as the Ogun State Commissioner of Youth and Sports and recently chaired the organizing committee for the 2024 National Sports Festival.

Abisoye Fagade, a marketing and communications expert, is now the Director-General of the National Institute for Hospitality and Tourism. Fagade is also known as the founder of Sodium Brand Solutions, a marketing firm.

Adebowale Adedokun has been appointed as Director-General of the Bureau of Public Procurement. Adedokun previously served as the bureau’s Director of Research, Training, and Strategic Planning.

Onanuga added, “The President enjoins the newly appointed officers to discharge their duties with dedication, patriotism, and excellence.”

Tinubu praised the appointments as strategic moves to enhance public service, urging the appointees to serve with commitment and integrity in their roles.
