Tinubu Absent As Akpabio Inaugurates Ojota-Opebi Link Bridge, Other Projects In Lagos
Senate President Godswill Akpabio represented President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday at the inauguration of several projects in Lagos State, including the Ojota-Opebi Link Bridge.
hailed Governor Sanwo-Olu for his infrastructural drive and asked Lagosians to protect the facilities.
Others unveiled were the Multi-Agency Complex and the Lagos Geographic Information System (LAGIS) building in Alausa, now renamed the Bola Ahmed Administrative Complex.
He described them as critical to the development of the nation’s commercial capital.
said that the 5.04-kilometre Ojota-Opebi Link Bridge would significantly ease traffic congestion, improve economic activities, and reduce travel time for residents and commuters.
” More than just a road; it is a bridge to opportunity. In Lagos, movement is everything. When traffic improves, productivity grows, and lives get better,” he said.
According to the President, the Lagos Geographic Information System (LAGIS) building represents the future.
“Data drives development, and a modern land administration system is essential to unlocking economic value.
“These projects align with our national vision: a Nigeria that is modern, digitally enabled, and economically strong. We must replicate this standard across the country,” the President added.
He hailed Governor Sanwo-Olu for his infrastructural drive and asked Lagosians to protect the facilities.
“To the people of Lagos: these projects are for you. Protect them and build on them. I commend Governor Sanwo-Olu and his team for their financial discipline and focus on service delivery,” he added.
Wednesday’s event brought leaders like Governors Dapo Abiodun, Douye Diri, Hope Uzodinma, and Babagana Zulum. Others were members of the National Assembly and State House of Assembly, and the leaders of the Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC), led by Prince Tajudeen Olusi.
Tinubu was expected to unveil the projects physically after his visit was widely publicised by the presidency and the Lagos Government. But no official reason was given for his absence as of the time of filing the report.
Viable Alternative Route’
The Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has said the newly inaugurated Opebi-Ojota Link Bridge will reduce the time residents spend in traffic and improve their overall quality of life.
Sanwo-Olu made the remarks on Wednesday in Lagos during the inauguration of the bridge and other projects, including the Lagos State Multi-Agency Complex in Alausa, now known as the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Administrative Complex, as well as the Lagos State Geographical Information System.
Now we have a brand-new bridge that will provide a direct connection from Opebi-Allen straight onto Ikorodu Road through the Odo Iya-Alaro and Mende corridor, creating a viable alternative route,” he said.
“It will reduce pressure on existing corridors such as Mobolaji Bank Anthony Way, Kudirat Abiola Road, and the Maryland axis. The objective is straightforward: to improve traffic efficiency with a noticeable impact even beyond the immediate environs.
“It will invariably improve the quality of life of all Lagosians, reduce the stress we go through, boost productivity, and allow more time to be spent at home with loved ones instead of being on the road,” the governor added.
