Speed Darlington arrested again, lawyer points Burna Boy

Nigerian rapper Speed Darlington, whose real name is Darlington Okoye, has been rearrested by the Nigeria Police Force.

This comes just two months after he was released from custody.

Speed Darlington was first arrested on October 4 over a controversial video in which he allegedly defamed fellow artist Burna Boy, accusing him of collaborating with embattled American rapper Diddy. He was released on bail on October 9 after five days in detention.

Following his release, Speed Darlington moved back to the United States and continued making statements about Burna Boy, retracting the apology he had earlier offered.

Reports from his lawyer, Adeyanju Deji, revealed that he was apprehended during a show in Owerri, Imo State.

“BREAKING: Our client Speed Darlington, a.k.a. AKPI, has been arrested by the Nigerian police in Owerri at his show upon return to Nigeria,” Adeyanju wrote.

He further accused Burna Boy of orchestrating the arrest, saying, “Burna Boy is behind the harassment of Speed Darlington by the police. This is someone who sings against oppression but is now oppressing others.”

The news sparked reactions on social media, with fans and critics sharing their thoughts:
