Oyo court orders remand 25-year-old for beating man to death

An Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan, Oyo State has ordered the remand of Isaac Akinola, a 25-year-old man, for allegedly conspiring with others to beat a man to death.

Akinola, whose address was not disclosed, faces charges of conspiracy and murder.

Magistrate Oluwabusayo Osho stated that the court could not take Akinola’s plea due to lack of jurisdiction. She directed the police to forward the case file to the Oyo State Director of Public Prosecutions for legal advice.

The case has been adjourned until February 19, 2025, for further mention.

Prosecutor Inspector Olalekan Adegbite told the court that Akinola and others committed the offences on November 20 at about 10 a.m. in Ogbomosho.

“Akinola conspired with others to beat one Mr. John Kome, aged 30, to death,” Adegbite said.

The prosecutor added that the alleged offences violated Sections 516 and 319 of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State, 2000.

Akinola remains in custody while awaiting further legal proceedings.
