Okpebholo sacks Obaseki’s appointees, dissolves executive board

Following his inauguration, Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo has dismissed all permanent secretaries appointed from outside the state’s civil service, as well as all political appointees of former Governor Godwin Obaseki.

This major move took place on Wednesday, just hours after the governor announced his initial list of appointees, which he plans to submit to the Edo State House of Assembly for confirmation.

In a statement issued in Benin by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Fred Itua, Okpebholo ordered that “all the permanent secretaries appointed from outside the public and civil service have been relieved of their appointments.”

The governor further directed those affected by the decision to hand over any government property in their possession to the most senior public officers within their respective ministries, departments, and agencies.

Alongside these dismissals, Okpebholo also approved the dissolution of Obaseki’s executive board, clearing the way for the assembly of his own cabinet team.

In line with his initial cabinet formation, Governor Okpebholo had nominated Cyril Oshiomole, son of former Edo State Governor Adams Oshiomole, as well as Samson Osagie, to serve as commissioners in his administration.
