In response to the incident, Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) promptly informed its customers, stating, “Kindly be informed there was a system collapse at 16.28 hours, which has resulted in a loss of power supply across our network.
We are currently working with our partners as we hope for speedy restoration of the grid. We will keep you updated as soon as the power supply is restored.”
The repercussions were felt nationwide, with many areas experiencing a lack of power supply, prompting businesses and households to resort to generating their independent power at increased costs.
Spokesperson for the Transmission Company of Nigeria, Ndidi Mba confirmed the occurrence, indicating that recovery efforts were underway. She stated, “There was a system collapse. But we have commenced recovery and have restored supply in Benin, Abuja, and some other parts of the nation.”
This event follows a series of nationwide blackouts experienced by Nigerians in 2023, underscoring the persistent challenges facing the nation’s energy infrastructure and the need for robust measures to ensure uninterrupted power supply.
