The Lagos State Physical Planning Permit Authority has said it will commence sealing of buildings without proper permits following the expiration of the grace period.
The agency, in a statement on Thursday, said it had commenced its monitoring for compliance activities for the Year 2025 after eight months of amnesty approved by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu from May 2 to December 31, 2024.
The event, held at Eko Hotels, Victoria Island, had “Rethinking Lagos: A New Vision for a Regional and Integrated Megacity” as the theme.
“The programme was orchestrated to allow owners/developers of existing structures without Planning Permit to come forward to obtain their Planning Permit without paying the usual penal fees for erecting buildings without prior approval.
“The authority is calling on property owners, developers and residents to abide by the Physical Planning Laws and endeavour to get their planning permits because following the expiry of the Amnesty Programme the authority will be coming with its full force to seal all buildings without approval,” it said in a statement on the government’s X handle.
Sanwo-Olu in October 2024 announced the extension of the amnesty period for owners and developers of buildings or structures without proper approvals until December 31.
The deadline was previously set for October ending, with the building owners expected to face penalties upon expiration.
“The amnesty period has been extended till December 31, 2024,” the governor said during the Lagos State Physical Planning Summit, organised by the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development.
