Katsina: 16-year-old boy in police net for killing stepmother

The Katsina State Police Command has apprehended a 16-year-old, Nuhu Haruna, hailing from Dutsinma Local Government Area, on allegations of killing his stepmother.

Haruna was arranged along with other individuals involved in serious crimes across the state, including kidnapping and homicide.

Spokesperson for the State Police Command, ASP Abubakar Sadiq, paraded the suspects at the Command’s headquarters on Wednesday, providing details of their alleged offenses.

Sadiq explained that Nuhu Haruna’s arrest followed a tragic dispute with his 40-year-old stepmother, Rabi Haruna, which escalated fatally.

“On October 21, 2024, at about 1:00 p.m., the command arrested one Nuhu Haruna, male, aged 16, of Fenza village, Dutsinma LGA, over a case of culpable homicide,” he reported.

Haruna allegedly struck his stepmother with a stick, landing a blow on her stomach during their altercation, which led to her tragic and untimely passing.

In another criminal case, the Command detained Abubakar Nasiru, popularly known as Haro, a Daura LG native, on allegations of involvement in criminal conspiracy and kidnapping.

Nasiru, previously convicted of rape, was reportedly implicated in a kidnapping case during an ongoing investigation.

“Nasiru conspired with others now at large in 2023, stormed Unguwar Maza village in Kafur LGA, and kidnapped three individuals,” ASP Sadiq explained.

During this abduction, a ransom of N13 million was allegedly paid to secure the victims’ release, with Nasiru confessing to receiving N2 million as his share.

Meanwhile, in a related operation, officers from the Anti-Kidnapping Unit arrested Ibrahim Isah, a resident of Yana village in Charanchi LGA.

Isah allegedly contacted the family of a missing man, Bello Sani, demanding N1 million as ransom. Police investigations traced his activities, leading to his arrest, ASP Sadiq confirmed.

In collaboration with the Gombe State Police Command, Katsina police also arrested 25-year-old Nasiru Sanusi of Gidan Daudu village in Kankara LGA.

Sanusi stands accused of conspiring with three others to kidnap his uncle, a local ward head, and subsequently receiving a ransom of N8 million along with six bags of fertilizer.

Tragically, the gang reportedly murdered the victim after the ransom exchange.

Following the crime, Sanusi fled to Lagos, then Taraba, and later Gombe, where he reportedly continued his criminal endeavors until his eventual capture.

“The suspect confessed to the crime, and investigations are ongoing to capture his accomplices,” Sadiq confirmed, adding that the Command remains resolute in tracking down all remaining suspects to ensure they face justice.
