Jigawa gov approves ₦70,000 new minimum wage for civil servants

Governor Umar Namadi of Jigawa State has approved a new minimum wage of ₦70,000 for civil servants.

This decision comes as many states in Nigeria are adjusting wages due to rising inflation and demands for better living conditions for workers.

The governor announced this change at the Jigawa State Government House in Dutse after receiving a report from the committee on minimum wage.

He stated, “After receiving the report, we have resolved to pay our workers ₦70,000 as the new minimum wage.”

Governor Namadi stressed the importance of fairly compensating state workers. He said, “We understand the rising cost of living, and we believe this increment will go a long way in alleviating the financial burden on our workers.”

Civil servants in the state have welcomed this news, eagerly waiting for the wage increase. The governor promised that the new wage structure would be implemented quickly to ensure a smooth transition.

The committee on minimum wage praised the governor for his quick decision. They noted that their report considered factors like inflation and the need to keep workers motivated.

This new wage comes after President Bola Tinubu approved ₦70,000 as the national minimum wage earlier this year, up from ₦30,000. Other states, such as Kebbi and Enugu, have also announced new minimum wages of ₦75,000 and ₦80,000, respectively.
