Award-winning actress and filmmaker Funke Akindele, popularly known as Jenifa, has set new milestones with her latest movie, Everybody Loves Jenifa.
The film, which premiered on Friday, December 13, 2024, has broken multiple records, according to data shared by Filmeoneng via Instagram on Monday. ELJ achieved the highest single-day gross in Nollywood history, raking in N87.8 million.
Additionally, it recorded the strongest opening weekend admission count of the year, with 38,353 viewers, making it the highest-grossing opening weekend in Nollywood’s history.
On its debut day, ELJ attracted 9,409 admissions, surpassing the previous record-holder, A Tribe Called Judah, which had 8,870 admissions.
This feat is particularly remarkable considering the movie did not screen at Genesis Cinemas and was only partially available at Silverbird Cinemas on opening day.
Even before its official release, ELJ grossed an impressive N16.8 million from advanced screenings.
The film has also made its international debut, premiering in 30 countries through Nile Group Entertainment, further solidifying its global appeal.
With its mix of humor, drama, and relatable storytelling, Everybody Loves Jenifa has resonated strongly with audiences, overcoming challenges such as limited cinema availability.
It is now not only the biggest opening weekend film of 2024 but also a benchmark for success in Nollywood.
Funke Akindele continues to showcase her prowess as both an actress and filmmaker, positioning Everybody Loves Jenifa as a cultural and cinematic milestone for the Nigerian film industry.
