Fola David sets new GWR for largest drawing

A Nigerian doctor and visual artist, Dr. Fola David-Tolaram, has set a new Guinness World Record by creating the largest individual drawing in history, measuring an impressive 1,004.7 square meters (about 10,814.5 square feet).

Guinness World Records confirmed his achievement on its website on Thursday.

Dr. David-Tolaram’s record-breaking artwork, crafted at Lagos’s Mobolaji Johnson Arena, features a detailed map of Nigeria that celebrates the nation’s cultural diversity. The artwork, titled *The Unity of Diversity*, showcases Nigeria’s rich heritage by portraying traditional foods, clothing, festivals, and music. The massive drawing covers an area equivalent to 3.8 tennis courts.

Describing his inspiration, Dr. David-Tolaram, 31, said, “Nigeria is a multi-cultural nation. I wanted to create something that speaks to that and give people an avenue to celebrate their cultures.”

To prepare for the ambitious project, Dr. David-Tolaram traveled across Nigeria to learn about different cultures firsthand. Reflecting on this experience, he shared, “It was this experience that I brought to the stadium to create this drawing.”

The entire project took six days to complete on a 1,360-square-meter canvas using waterproof markers.

I grew up reading about world records and never thought that I would be a record title holder. I’m still trying to process the emotion of this entire thing, but I feel very honoured, distinguished, and Officially Amazing,” he said.
