The federal government has disclosed that it has released funds for payment of withheld salaries of Non-Academic Staff Union of Federal Universities (NASU).
A statement signed by the Director, Press and Public Relations, the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation (OAGF), Bawa Mokwa, disclosed this in Abuja on Saturday.
Recalled that the non-teaching staff unions in the universities, comprising the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU) and the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) embarked on a nationwide indefinite strike on Monday, October 28, 2024, over the non-payment of their four months withheld salaries.
The two Unions have insisted that the strike will not be called off unless the Federal Government harken to their demand.
The OAGF in the statement said payments to the Non-Academic Staff of Federal Universities had commenced and many have confirmed receipt.
The statement also disclosed that the federal government has also released funds for payment of benefits to retirees under the Nigerian Union of Pensioners Contributory Pension Scheme Sector (NUPCPS)
The statement reiterated the Federal Government’s commitment to efficiently cater for the well-being of Nigerian workers and retirees.
