Nigerian lawyers have filed a complaint with international organizations, including the UN and the UK, against EFCC Chairman Olanipekun Olukoyede, accusing him of disregarding court orders and violating citizens’ rights.
At a press conference in Abuja, the lawyers accused Olukoyede of ignoring court orders and infringing on citizens’ constitutional rights, citing the treatment of former Governor Yahaya Bello as an example. They warned that if Olukoyede continues to violate rights, they will push for a visa ban and halt international financial aid to the EFCC.
The lawyers seek a judiciary that upholds justice independently and visibly. They have approached international entities to address Olukoyede’s alleged neglect of court orders and constitutional breaches.
The lawyers appealed to President Bola Tinubu to intervene and prevent Olukoyede from using his position for political purposes, which could harm the government’s reputation. They have written to the UN, the US, the UK, and the European Union to investigate Olukoyede’s actions and caution him.
The lawyers urged decisive action to improve the country and its institutions, emphasizing their commitment to advocating for judicial respect and robust institutions free from political or social influence.
