A near-tragic accident unfolded on Monday morning at Mile 2, Lagos, when a 40-foot container fell onto a Toyota Camry with registration number LSR 293 HJ.
The driver of the vehicle, whose identity remains unknown, narrowly escaped death.
The mishap occurred around 8 a.m. along the route to Apapa Ports, causing severe traffic disruptions in the busy area.
Eyewitnesses noted that the swift response of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority and other emergency teams for averting a fatal outcome.
The driver, rescued promptly by a joint emergency team, was rushed to a nearby hospital for medical attention.
Meanwhile, officers from the Kirikiri Police Division provided security at the scene, ensuring that emergency operations were carried out without hindrance.
Following the successful extraction of the driver, the mangled Toyota Camry was removed from beneath the container.
As of 9:30 a.m., efforts to evacuate the fallen container were still underway. LASTMA officers remained on site, working to restore traffic flow and maintain order.
The General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, condemned the improper securing of containers, citing it as a recurrent cause of similar accidents.
