The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Owode I, has ordered the immediate dissolution of an unauthorised coronation committee allegedly formed without his approval
In a statement issued in Ibadan on Wednesday, the monarch declared that any further meetings or activities related to the committee would be considered illegal and would not be tolerated.
The statement, titled “Coronation Committee Setup in Oyo Town—Notice of Cease & Desist,” emphasized that any committee or event related to the coronation must first receive approval from the Alaafin’s office.
“Let it be known to all and sundry that any committee or activity being set up or promoted without the prior consent and approval of His Imperial Majesty and his office shall be deemed unauthorized and will not be allowed to exist,” the statement read.
The Alaafin warned all individuals involved to cease further engagements related to the committee, adding that the public should disregard any fundraising efforts unless officially endorsed by the royal family.
The monarch acknowledged the intentions of those behind the unauthorized committee but clarified that only the royal family has the authority to organize or approve fundraising activities for the coronation.
“The efforts of the organisers are appreciated, and they will be informed as events unfold should there be any need for their contributions,” the statement noted.
Oba Owode I stressed that all coronation-related initiatives must go through his office before becoming public to ensure proper coordination and authenticity.
