The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has raised the alarm over what it described as the alleged forced e-registration of civil servants into the All Progressives Congress (APC) across Nigeria.

In a statement released on Sunday, the opposition party accused APC officials and government agents of allegedly compelling civil servants to enrol on the ruling party’s electronic membership platform, warning that the move undermines democratic principles and the political neutrality of the civil service.

According to the ADC, reports from different states indicate that some public workers are facing pressure and intimidation to participate in the APC e-registration exercise, with fears that refusal could affect job security, promotions, or workplace benefits.

The party described the alleged practice as undemocratic and unconstitutional, stressing that Nigeria’s civil service is legally required to remain non-partisan irrespective of which political party is in power.

The ADC called on President Bola Tinubu, relevant oversight institutions, and anti-corruption agencies to urgently investigate the allegations and ensure that no civil servant is coerced into joining any political party.

It also urged labour unions and civil society organisations to defend workers’ rights and speak out against any form of political intimidation within public institutions.
