A’Court affirms Ramon Adedoyin’s death sentence in OAU student murder

The Court of Appeal sitting in Akure, Ondo State, has upheld the death sentence handed to Dr. Ramon Adedoyin, a hotelier, for his involvement in the murder of Timothy Adegoke, a Master’s student at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife.

According to Vanguard, the appellate court confirmed the decision of the Osun State High Court, which had earlier convicted Adedoyin and sentenced him to death by hanging.

Adegoke had lodged at Hilton Hotels and Resorts in Ile-Ife, Osun State—owned by Adedoyin—on November 5, 2021, after traveling from Abuja to prepare for an examination scheduled at OAU’s Distance Learning Centre, Moro.

Tragically, he was later reported missing and subsequently found buried in a shallow grave, following police investigations.

“The judgment of the High Court of Osun State stands. Adedoyin’s appeal is dismissed in part,” the Court of Appeal stated in its decision. It emphasized that Adedoyin’s conviction and death sentence were proper and lawful.

However, the court reversed certain aspects of the earlier judgment, including the forfeiture of Hilton Hotels and the order mandating Adedoyin and others to provide scholarships for Adegoke’s children.

“Order of forfeiture of Hilton Hotel quashed and set aside. Order of education scholarship to children of Timothy Adegoke by Adedoyin and others quashed and set aside,” the appellate court ruled.
