The Sokoto State Police Command has arrested Maishanu Auwal, a security guard, along with two other suspects in connection with theft and criminal conspiracy at the National Broadcasting Commission Zonal Office in Sokoto.
The arrest was disclosed in a statement signed by the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Ahmad Rufai, on Tuesday.
According to the police, the case began on January 17, 2025, when the Zonal Director of the NBC in Sokoto, Ladan Muhammad, reported a theft at his office located in the Gagi area of the state capital.
“At approximately 2:50 PM, Muhammad reported the disappearance of several items, including three KVA inverters, three 600 KVA inverter batteries, a fridge compressor, a brand-new tyre for the office bus, and a 32-inch LG television,” the statement revealed.
Acting swiftly, the Divisional Crime Officer led a team of investigators to the scene. During their inquiries, security guard Maishanu Auwal was questioned, and his confession revealed a larger criminal conspiracy.
Auwal admitted to colluding with Ismaila Ahmad, a resident of the Nakasare area, to carry out the theft.
Further investigations led to the arrests of other suspects, including Yahuza Tukur and Abdulrahman Abbas, who were also from the Nakasare area. These individuals were accused of assisting in concealing the stolen items.
Additionally, police identified three more suspects—Basiru Lawali from Kuffa area, Murtala Tijani from Kwanni area, and Abubakar Umar from Gangaren Kuffa area—as receivers of the stolen property.
The police successfully recovered the stolen items, including the inverters, batteries, television, and other valuables.
DSP Rufai stated, “The suspects are currently in custody, and preparations for their prosecution are underway.”
The Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Musa, commended the investigative team for their diligence and praised the public for their cooperation in apprehending the suspects.
