Professor Chukwuma Soludo, Governor of Anambra State says he has not received any salary since he assumed office two years ago.
Soludo disclosed this in Awka, the state capital at the International Convention Center, during the celebration of the second anniversary of his administration.
He also added that his wife, Nonye Soludo, being the first lady of Anambra, does not have an official car and still drives his cars.
Soludo stated that he purposefully implemented the most careful governmental measures by reducing expenses and abstaining from borrowing over the past two years.
He said: “Any governor that comes, floods you with offers for borrowing and so on, but we opted to showcase our ability to achieve greater outcomes with limited resources during the past two years.”
“The governor also noted that despite receiving about 25 percent in real terms or in dollar terms of what was in the past, we have chosen purposely not to borrow.”
I have been asked numerous times: “How are you managing without resorting to borrowing, especially amidst challenging circumstances?” And my answer is that we are doing so because we are executing the strictest measure of government ever.”
According to him, the decision to reduce waste and trim down the cost of governance is aimed at channelling resources towards important priorities that hold significance for the people of the state.
He further noted that his administration has prioritized neglected areas from the past by constructing hospitals, roads, schools, and other social amenities in locations that have been neglected.
