LAMATA reaffirms seamless transportation for public use

The Managing Director of the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority, Abimbola Akinajo, has said the state is working round the clock to ensure public transportation becomes seamless for Lagosians.

Speaking on Thursday after inspecting the Marina Train station and the Mile 2 transport interchange hub, she said the state government was changing public transportation narratives by integrating various transportation modes.

Akinajo said that the Mile 2 interchange would be completed in the next 12 to 13 months.

According to her, the hubs are vital to the Lagos Strategic Transport Masterplan, designed to create a seamless network that connects road, rail, water, and non-motorised transport.

She added the hubs would serve as key transfer points, enabling smooth transitions for commuters.

Akinajo emphasised Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s vision to make public transportation a preferred mode of commuting for Lagosians.

She said, “The transit interchanges at Marina and Mile 2 are integral to this vision, serving as crucial hubs that will seamlessly connect all modes of transportation – road, rail, water and nonmotorised transport.

“The 13-kilometre Mile 2 to Marina Lagos Blue Rail Line is a game changer for transportation in Lagos.”

The agency noted that for residents of Mile 2, FESTAC and Amuwo-Odofin environs, the development would provide a new way of commuting between Ojo and the Marina/CMS areas of the Lagos metropolis.
