The Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Police Force, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, has condemned the act of raining direct curses on individuals online, emphasising that such behaviour constitutes cyberbullying and is a punishable offence.
Adejobi in a post on X.com on Friday, stated that the act of targeting someone with harsh and abusive language online goes beyond the realm of freedom of expression or criticism.
He wrote, “Raining direct curses on someone online is cyberbullying, not expression of freedom or criticism.
“And cyberbullying, which is even different from defamation, is a criminal offence and punishable. Be guided.”
Reacting to the post, an X user #felaboyomi wrote, “When does raining curses become a crime? I look forward to the day someone will challenge these law they are using to take away peoples human right in the supreme court. Late Gani Fawehinmi would have challenged that law by now.”
Another user #TimiBlaze wrote, “That is not democracy!!! What you have done to that lady is political persecution. There is not one single individual who hasn’t cursed online. If i point you to apc supporters who are insulting, can you dare make an arrest?”
#Myname also said, “Someone will just wake up and formulate his own laws. The aftermath of 2023 judicial interpretations has given everyone in a position of authority to just interpret laws in their own way. Naso baba go wake up one day and say “breathing Oxygen is a punishable offence” Lol.”
