Tinubu orders probe of Ibadan stampede, mourns victims

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic incident at a children’s funfair in Ibadan, Oyo State, which claimed the lives of several children and left many others injured.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the President extended his condolences to the government and people of Oyo State, as well as to the grieving families.

“This is an unimaginable loss. My prayers are with the families who are mourning their beloved children,” Tinubu said.

The President called for an immediate and thorough investigation into the incident, emphasizing the need to establish whether negligence or other factors contributed to the tragedy.

“This investigation must be transparent and ensure accountability. We owe it to the victims and their families to uncover the truth,” he stated.

President Tinubu also urged the Oyo State Government to take decisive measures to prevent similar occurrences in the future.

These include a comprehensive review of safety protocols for public events, strict enforcement of safety regulations, and regular audits of event venues.

“No child’s life should ever be endangered by preventable lapses. Our children’s safety and well-being must always come first,” the President asserted.

He further appealed to event organizers to prioritize the safety of attendees, especially children, by integrating professional security, proper logistics, and strict adherence to safety standards.

The President concluded by reaffirming his commitment to ensuring that such a tragedy does not happen again, noting, “This incident is a painful reminder of the need for vigilance and responsibility in every public gathering.”
