The National Association of Nigerian Students Zone E, has issued a 14-day ultimatum to the Federal Government, demanding the immediate mobilisation of contractors to resume work on four critical road projects in the northeast region.
According to a statement signed by its Coordinator, Umar Afkawa, the student body warned of mass protests across Adamawa, Gombe, Taraba, and Borno statesif the government fails to act within the stipulated timeframe.
The affected road projects include, Numan-Gombe Road, Numan-Jalingo Road, Damaturu-Buni Yafi Road, Biu-Garkida Road.
Afkawa noted that work on these key roadways, which serve as major transport arteries in the region, has stalled despite repeated promises from the Federal Government.
He emphasised that the delay has brought untold hardship to students, commuters, and residents, severely affecting economic activities and daily movement across the states.
NANS specifically called on the Minister of Works, David Umahi, to provide a comprehensive timeline for the completion of the projects and address any challenges hindering progress.
“Failure to comply with these demands within the stipulated 14 days will lead to mass protests in Adamawa, Gombe, Taraba, and Borno states,” the statement read.
“The association will mobilise students and community members to demand action, and we will escalate our concerns through engagement with relevant stakeholders.”
Afkawa underscored the severe impact of the incomplete projects on students and the broader community. “The prolonged delays have caused untold hardship, disrupting travel for students and residents who rely on these roads daily,” he said.
