Nigerian Army says anti-bunkering efforts boosting oil production

The Nigerian Army has highlighted the success of its anti-bunkering operations in the Niger Delta, stating that they have significantly reduced oil theft, increased oil production, and contributed to the nation’s economic recovery.

Speaking at the combined West African Social Activities event on Saturday at the military cantonment in Mbiokporo, Nsit-Ibom Local Government Area, Brig. Gen. Jafaar Ibrahim, Commander of the 2nd Brigade Nigerian Army, emphasized the brigade’s achievements in curbing criminal activities and fostering peace in Akwa Ibom State.

He noted that operations such as Operation Delta Safe Joint Task Force South-South (Sector 4) and Operation Thunder have drastically degraded the activities of criminal elements in the region.

“The continuous conduct of various operations in the brigade’s area of responsibility has drastically decreased security threats and rekindled confidence,” Ibrahim said.

He further assured the public of the brigade’s unwavering commitment to collaborating with other security agencies to ensure Akwa Ibom remains peaceful for law-abiding citizens.

“The anti-bunkering operation is also curbing oil theft to the barest minimum in the state and boosting national oil production to the optimum level for improved national recovery,” he added.

The WASA event, a long-standing tradition of the Nigerian Army, also provided an opportunity to celebrate the successes of the past year. Retired Ambassador (Gen) Godwin Umo, the special guest of honor, commended the 2nd Brigade for hosting the event, describing WASA as a platform for relaxation and motivation amidst the challenges of military life.

“By nature, the military profession, all over the world, is full of challenges, stress, and tension. Therefore, WASA and other social functions are designed to de-emphasize such stress and tension, to enable troops to forge ahead and face any challenge with renewed strength,” Umo stated.

The event featured cultural displays by various ethnic groups, as well as the presentation of gifts and prizes to personnel who excelled in their respective units and formations.
