The Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority has distributed compensation to tenants and property owners impacted by the ongoing Quality Bus Corridor project in the Ketu, Alapere, and Akanimodo areas of Lagos State.
The QBC Package 1C project, covering a 4.7-kilometre stretch from Ketu to Akanimodo, aims to improve public transportation efficiency in Lagos.
The initiative, jointly funded by the Lagos State Government and the French Development Agency, includes the construction of 10 lay-bys, renovating six major junctions, and modernizing the Mile 12 bus terminal.
During a cheque presentation ceremony, LAMATA’s Managing Director, Abimbola Akinajo, represented by Technical Adviser for Corporate and Investment Planning, Osa Konyeha, expressed appreciation to affected residents for their cooperation and understanding.
Akinajo highlighted the broader benefits of the project, stating that it is designed to reduce traffic congestion, shorten travel times, and encourage public transportation use across the state. She also assured residents of the Lagos State Government’s commitment to providing fair compensation and appealed for their continued support to ensure the project’s success.
“The QBC project is a critical part of our efforts to transform Lagos’ transportation system. We remain dedicated to ensuring that those affected by the project are treated fairly,” Akinajo said.
LAMATA noted that the dedicated bus corridors created under the QBC project are expected to address long-standing challenges in Lagos’ public transportation system, offering a more efficient and reliable commuter transit network.
The project, which aligns with Lagos State’s vision of a modern and sustainable transportation infrastructure, has been lauded for its potential to enhance urban mobility and ease the daily commute for millions of residents.
