Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs denied bail for third time in sex-trafficking case

Sean “Diddy” Combs has been denied bail for the third time in his ongoing sex-trafficking case.

A judge in New York ruled on Wednesday that releasing the music mogul would pose a risk of witness tampering and community safety.

Mr. Combs, who is held at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, is facing charges including racketeering conspiracy, sex trafficking, and transportation for prostitution.

His trial is set for May 2025, and he has pleaded not guilty to all charges while also denying over two dozen civil accusations of sexual assault.

Judge Arun Subramanian stated in his ruling, “The Court finds that the government has shown by clear and convincing evidence that no condition or combination of conditions will reasonably assure the safety of the community.”

The judge also highlighted evidence of alleged misconduct by Mr. Combs, including improper use of jail communications to influence witnesses and his reported violation of prison rules.

Prosecutors accused Mr. Combs of using a jail communication app, ContactMeASAP, to send hundreds of messages to individuals, some of whom were not approved contacts. They claimed he encouraged people to post online content that could sway public opinion in his favor.

Lisa Bloom, a lawyer for one of the civil plaintiffs, Dawn Richards, alleged that Mr. Combs contacted witnesses from prison. She said, “He didn’t do this by himself. He had an operation that involved others. Witness tampering is a strong implication in this case.”

Mr. Combs’s legal team argued he needed time outside jail to prepare for his trial, offering a $50 million bail package with conditions like house arrest and no female visitors. The proposal was rejected.

His lawyers also claimed a recent search of his jail cell violated attorney-client privilege, as it included handwritten notes on his legal strategy. Prosecutors countered that his actions, including attempts to influence witnesses, undermined such protections.

Combs faces numerous civil lawsuits accusing him of coercion, blackmail, and assault, including allegations involving underage individuals. Prosecutors said their investigation is ongoing and could lead to additional charges or arrests.

“He didn’t act alone,” Ms. Bloom emphasized. “It’s important that not only predators are held accountable but also those who help them.”

Despite the legal battles, Mr. Combs continues to deny all allegations.
