Insecurity: NSA promises to secure, fix Nigeria

National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, has cautioned that any actions undermining national security under President Bola Tinubu’s leadership would face strict consequences,

According to the News Agency of Nigeria, Ribadu made this known at the Comptroller General of Customs Conference held in Abuja on Wednesday.

He underscored the administration’s commitment to tackling the threats posed by bandits, terrorists, and other criminal entities.

Ribadu highlighted that high-level strategies implemented by the government were achieving substantial progress, with hundreds of bandits being neutralized daily, a success that has even forced many of them to retreat across the border into Chad.

This shift has been significant enough to prompt the Chadian president to declare his own campaign against these elements.

“We will secure this country, we will fix it, we are not jokers,” Ribadu affirmed, reinforcing the administration’s dedication to ensuring a safe environment that supports national growth and stability.

He emphasized that Tinubu’s administration is fully committed to fostering peace across Nigeria. Ribadu pointed to notable improvements in the security landscape within the Niger Delta, where a once-troubled region now experiences a stable and productive environment.

This enhanced security has catalyzed a surge in Nigeria’s crude oil output, with production rates now hitting 1.8 million barrels per day.

“Many parts of our country today are living in peace. Go to the Niger Delta, things have changed,” he noted, underscoring the tangible impact of the administration’s security measures.

Ribadu also encouraged Nigerians to maintain patience during this period of transformation, assuring them that the government’s reforms are systematically strengthening both security and the economy.

He revealed that the Central Bank of Nigeria is undergoing essential reforms, which, once fully implemented, will contribute to stabilizing the national currency, the Naira.

In addition to the security updates, Ribadu praised the Nigeria Customs Service for its recent accomplishments, urging career officers to strive toward leadership roles as new opportunities for advancement arise within the service.

The conference, which began on Tuesday, is set to conclude on Friday, bringing together key stakeholders to deliberate on these significant issues and solidify future strategic goals.
