Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu has rewarded overall best- graduating student,Aminat Yusuf of Lagos State University (LASU), with N10 million during the university’s 26th Convocation and 40th Anniversary celebration on Thursday.
Yusuf, a Law Department graduate, achieved a perfect cumulative grade point average of 5.0 for the 2021/2022 academic session.
Several distinguished individuals received honorary doctorate degrees at the event.
These included former Lagos State Governor and ex-Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola; former Ekiti State Governor, Kayode Fayemi; and Oba Saheed Elegushi of the Elegushi Kingdom in Lagos.
Fashola was honored with a Doctor of Humane Letters in Urban and Rural Community Development and Youth Empowerment.
Fayemi received a Doctor of Humane Letters in Human Rights, National Integration, and African Security Development.
Former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, was awarded a Doctor of Law in Education, Community, and National Development. Lagos State Governor’s wife, Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, was honored with a Doctor of Humane Letters in Child Healthcare, Environmental Development, and Women Empowerment.
Oba Elegushi was awarded a Doctor of Arts in Broadcasting, Community Integration, and Human Rights Advocacy.
The Oniba of Iba Kingdom, Oba Sulaimon Raji-Ashade, received a Doctor of Humane Letters in Grassroots Development, while Pastor Daniel Olukoya, General Overseer of Mountain of Fire, was honored with a Doctor of Science in Genetics and Biotechnology.
In total, 10,183 students graduated from LASU for the 2020/2021 and 2021/2022 academic years, with 282 earning first-class honors.
The university also awarded postgraduate diplomas, academic and professional master’s degrees, doctorates in philosophy, and professional doctorates to 1,604 students.
