The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) Ogun Area 1 Command has intercepted banned items worth N380 million in just 23 days.
The seized items include 2,922 bags of foreign rice and 1,309 parcels of cannabis sativa, also known as Indian Hemp.
This comes as the Command faces challenges with the Republic of Benin authorities, who are hindering legitimate import trading activities through the Idiroko Border.
Despite this, the Command has recorded 103 seizures, including foreign used tyres, used clothes, frozen products, and petroleum products being smuggled out of the country.
The Command has also generated N14.6 million in revenue through baggage assessments and public auction of intercepted petroleum products.
The Area Controller, Comptroller James Ojo, encourages compliant traders to remain steadfast and assures them of maximum cooperation, while efforts are ongoing to address the challenges hindering trade flow.
