The management of the Federal Housing Authority (FHA) on Wednesday began construction of 195 housing units at Ofada, Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State, as part of efforts to reduce Nigeria’s estimated 14.925 million housing deficit.

The groundbreaking ceremony for the FHA Gateway Estate was performed by the Managing Director and Chief Executive of the Authority, Hon. Oyetunde Ojo.

Speaking at the event, Ojo said the project aligns with the directive given to the Authority by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and represents another step in expanding the national housing stock.

“Today’s event is very significant to us in the Federal Housing Authority as we again commence the addition of about 200 housing units to our national housing stock, another step in the fulfillment of of the express mandate given to our management by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu when we were appointed about two years ago,” he said.

He explained that the estate is being developed through a partnership between the Federal Housing Authority, Greenpasture Homes and Akkenog International Company Ltd, and will deliver 95 units of 2-bedroom and 100 units of 3-bedroom terrace duplexes.

Ojo said the Authority will continue to adopt the Public Private Partnership model as a key strategy for housing delivery across the country, noting that government alone cannot meet the housing demand.

He also called for stronger collaborations with private developers and investors, saying the Authority is open to more viable partnerships.

The FHA boss commended President Tinubu’s interventions in the housing sector, adding that infrastructure improvements such as the reconstruction of the Shagamu–Owode road have added value to the estate corridor. He urged residents and the host community to support smooth delivery of the project.

Executive Director of Estate Services and Chairman of the FHA Groundbreaking Committee, Architect Ezekiel Nya Etok, also praised the government’s housing efforts.

He said the administration has made notable progress in the sector and expressed confidence in wider acceptance of FHA projects in the near future.

Architect Etok said: “We are so much committed to the success of the project, having a reputable partner like the Federal Housing Authority.”

FHA’s General Manager, Partnership, Architect Peter Okpanachi, said the estate is designed to offer comfort, safety and a structured environment for residents.

On his part, the MD/CEO of Akkenog International Company Ltd, Pastor Kehinde Akinwunmi Ogunusi, said the partnership was carefully structured and expressed confidence in its success.

The MD of Greenpasture Homes Ltd, Engineer Oloyede Oluwale, said the company remains fully committed to delivering the project according to approved designs, standards and timelines.

Engineer Oluwale said: “This project represents a strong and visionary Public- Private Partnership involving the Federal Housing Authority, Akkenog International Company Ltd and Greenpasture Homes, where FHA is providing the technical oversight, regulatory guidance, branding and institutional support,” he said.
