2027 alignment: Wike-backed PDP fumes over Makinde-ADC alliance plans
The PDP bloc, backed by Governor Seyi Makinde, met with ADC leaders, including David Mark and Rauf Aregbesola, to discuss a potential alliance to unseat President Bola Tinubu in 2027.
The meeting aimed to reaffirm commitment to democracy and discuss collaboration. However, the Wike-backed PDP faction denied reports of alliance talks with ADC, stating no meeting was authorized.
Opposition parties face internal crises, with rival factions and court disputes. INEC de-recognized the David Mark-led ADC, citing a court order.
Key opposition leaders, including Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, protested at INEC headquarters, demanding recognition of the Mark-led ADC and resignation of INEC chairman, Prof. Joseph Amupitan.
The ADC accused INEC of bias, stating its actions undermine democracy. The party demanded Amupitan’s resignation, citing his attempts to interpret court judgments and alleged partisanship.
The PDP and ADC reportedly agreed to collaborate on a common platform, but the choice of platform is undecided. The parties aim to prevent a one-party system and ensure democratic governance.
The opposition leaders face challenges, including internal conflicts, court battles, and INEC’s stance. Their ability to form a united front will be crucial in the 2027 elections.
